Four firms behind water sanitation sale in Colombia

Corporate / M&A

Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP in Los Angeles and Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uría in Bogotá have helped private equity firm Platinum Equity acquire Swiss life sciences group Lonza’s entire water sanitation business in Colombia for US$630 million.

Jenner & Block in New York and Brigard Urrutia in Bogotá advised Lonza for the sale. The sale closed on 28 February.

Lonza is reported to be selling its Colombian assets as part of a long-term strategy to focus on its healthcare business, after it purchased American pill capsule maker Capsugel in 2016.

Under the terms of the deal, Lonza’s Colombian business will operate under a new corporate identity.
